Goal Setting
Gain Clarity on your Goal/Values - what are your short-term (30, 60, 90 days) vs. long-term (1, 3, 5, 10 years) goals?
What are your top 5 core values? Explore the types of roles/companies that align with your goals & core values.
Polish your Resume
As a general rule, the most effective resumes:
Are cleanly formatted, easy to read, and simply templated
Use powerful verbs and tell a compelling narrative about your background
Contain measurable results and achievements, and the context to understand them
Are tailored to your experience, yet customized to align with the role you’re applying for
Reflect your unique voice and communication style, for consistency in the interview process

Virtual Relationship Building (vs. Networking)
LinkedIn Best Practices
Focus on long-term relationship building – what is your intention?
Create/Revamp your profile then set goals for daily LinkedIn use – Ex. 5 likes/reactions, 2 connections, 2 comments, 1 post, 30 minutes
Diversify network – again, in the direction of your search!
Following – If you don’t know/want to connect with someone but want to see their content – they will be notified if you follow them
Focus on connection – what do you have in common?

Enhance your skillset
Address gaps between your current skillset and your goals – what’s one thing you can do today to get you closer to your near-term/short-term goals?

Where to begin?
Connect with your classmates, professors, TA’s, colleagues from internship experiences – get contact information and also connect on LinkedIn
Get clear about what you really want to do - Set goal, once you know what type of roles/companies you’re searching for, practice communicating that to friends from your campus/CRE community who can give you concrete feedback on clarity, messaging, and delivery
Once you feel confident, tackle next steps
Utilize your alumni network - here’s a great template for requesting a “virtual coffee” or informational interview:

Be a scientist! Do your research to ensure that you’re going in the direction of something that’s a good fit for your personality, values, skillset, & goals
Engage in dialogue – LinkedIn, blogs, newsletters, etc. when you have something to add
Assess/address skills and/or knowledge gap with hands-on learning or freelancing
Build your network in the direction of your transition
